Kings Island Trip

Posted: August 1, 2011 in Uncategorized

The Shack High Schoolers will be heading to Kings Island on August 12th.

We will meet at ECC at 7am and be back around midnight THAT night.

The cost will be $50 which will cover: Entry to the park, gas for drivers and a pre-made lunch.  They will still need to have money for any food or activities in the park as well as DINNER.

Please turn in your money and medical form to Rob no later than Sunday, August 7th.

If you have any questions pleas do no hesitate to ask!  I am still looking for drivers….so let me know if you’re interested!

We have been working through a summer-long study on “the heart” called “Matters of the Heart” .

No, we aren’t talking about the organ in your chest, but we do believe the “heart” we speak of is of vital importance to our lives.  The heart is source of our affections.  It is the word that sums up our inner self and what, at our core, we love the most.  Because where we give our affections is where we will give our time, money and other resources.

Think about it…

If you love a girl or guy, you’re going to spend time with them.  You’re probably also going to buy them things and spend time on him or her.  You may end up even giving them things that you shouldn’t.

If you love sports, you just may play one….or like 10.  And you probably spend money on equipment, lessons or traveling.  And all of those practices and games take a lot of time.

God knows this about you.  In Proverbs 4:23 the Bible says “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from”.

Everything you do, flows from what you love.

God created you that way.  But He made you in such a way, that He was supposed to be your first love.  All other affections were meant to flow from that place.  God at the top, means that you will thrive in your other affections.  You’ll be selfless in relationships.  You’ll be content in who God says you are rather than how well you did or who likes you.

It frees you up.

So this stuff is important and where we give our hearts matters to God cause He wants them.

So throughout the summer we’ll be hitting on various ways we can engage our hearts with God and truly be able to live the lives we’ve been called to and love people the way Jesus loves us.

Thursday Chill 7/7

Some important stuff to know

Posted: June 29, 2011 in Announcements

Here are some important things to know:

Thursday- we’ll spend the first little bit of our time at the prayer vigil for Lauren Spierer in the sanctuary at 7. We feel it is important for us to come alongside the rest of the body in praying for her and her family.
Afterwards we’ll be grilling out and hanging out a bit.

Sunday- no Sunday blast. Enjoy the holiday!

That’s it for now!

Hey everyone,

Well, things are rolling now here at the Shack!

We just recently got new flooring and cabinets and I must say it looks really good! We are really happy with the finished product and feel it will only add to our activities at the Shack!

WEEKLY HAPPENINGS

We have also begun both Summer Blast (Sunday’s at 9:30) and The Weekly Chill (Thursdays from 7-8:30) at the Shack. These have really been a lot of fun and I have had a blast getting to know the students! They are a group with a lot of personality so it keeps me on my toes! I love it! I’ll be sure to update the blog with what they’re learning!

UPCOMING EVENTS

We also have a Lock-In coming up on July 15th at 8pm to July 16th at 8am at the Shack for High Schoolers only! The cost will be $5 and they will need to bring sleeping bags and such. More info will be coming out in the next week or so.

DATE CHANGES

Due to a scheduling conflict I will need to move the date of the Kings Island Trip. It WAS going to be on August 6th but now we have moved it to Friday August 12th. Please make a note of this in your calendars.
